Blue Sky: Renewable Energy from Pacific Power

For anyone interested in supporting renewable energy resources, Pacific Power, the local provider of electricity here in the Rogue Valley, offers the Blue Sky program. Blue Sky is voluntary and available to all residential customers and businesses. When you enroll in the Blue Sky program, Pacific Power purchases electricity from renewable resources that is delivered to the regional power system equal to your Blue Sky purchase.

There are a few program options for both residential and business customers to choose from, depending on how much of your electrical usage you want to be covered by renewable sources. Residential and small business customers can purchase 100 kilowatt-hour “blocks” of energy at a fixed price of $1.95 per block or you can opt to cover 100% of your energy usage for approximately $8.00 per month. For $2 to $8 a month, you can have the peace of mind knowing that some or all of your energy usage is covered by renewable energy sources that can be regenerated or replenished.

Renewable energy sources include wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, hydro power, wave and tidal. These sources have less of an impact on the environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. For example, if you choose to cover 100% of your residential energy use through Blue Sky, it's equivalent to not driving your car for each year you are enrolled. In addition to the environmental benefits, renewable energy is good for the local economy as it creates jobs and investments in local renewable energy projects.

Businesses can set an example in the community and take pride in their participation of the Blue Sky program. The Medford Food Co-op is enrolled in the Blue Sky program and we are proud to support regional and local renewable energy sources and avoid carbon dioxide emissions. We encourage our customers, staff, and other local businesses to sign up for Blue Sky and start supporting renewable energy today!
